The Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission amended the Guide of Medical and Surgical Fees. Chesapeake Employers has adopted these payment guidelines and will reimburse providers according to the Medicare payment methodologies. In order to ensure that you do not receive bills for medical expenses, there are several important reminders:
Always inform the provider that this is a workers' compensation claim and the carrier is Chesapeake Employers.
The Chesapeake Employers' claim number should be presented at all appointments.
Download the Temporary Prescription ID from the website to avoid any bills for work-related medications.
Brian Furr was appointed Director of Health Services. Since that time, advances in the Medical Billing Department have been implemented to decrease the rising costs of medical treatment. Three action plans to address this issue are: the implementation of the Ingenix program, decreasing the lag time for medical bills, and development of the Physicians' Council.
Ingenix is a system that allows for review of medical bills to ensure appropriate payment per established guidelines. All applicable rules of coding are applied and cross referenced.
Currently the lag time between the time a medical bill enters Chesapeake Employers and a check is sent to the provider is fewer than 11 days.
The Physicians' Council was established to maintain communication with prominent physicians in the workers' compensation arena. Issues of concern to both Chesapeake Employers and physicians are discussed face-to-face in order to develop solutions in a timely manner. Changes are regularly implemented to improve communication between Chesapeake Employers and medical providers.
