The Importance of an Independent Medical Evaluation

The Independent Medical Evaluation (IME) is an essential component of the workers’ compensation claim process in Maryland. The IME addresses questions of causal relationship of an injury to the workplace, to determine if the requested medical treatment is necessary, and to assess when the patient has achieved maximum medical improvement after an injury. IMEs are also needed to establish proper impairment ratings and work status.
